Medicaid and Children with Multiple Disabilities

Category: Disability Advocacy,Health,Special NeedsAdmin @ 8:32 am

When we talk about the Medicaid cuts that are currently being debated in Congress, we need to keep the people this would hurt most front and center. When you have a family member with serious disabilities, you may be so busy lending support and care that you have little time or energy for advocacy. Besides, what can one person do?

Get informed and get empowered by an organization who has done so much already: Little Lobbyists was started by a single family in 2017 in response to potential cuts to the Affordable Care Act. Today they are pushing back against cuts to Medicaid by sharing the stories of families with members who have disabilities. And that’s not all.

As they say on their website, “Little Lobbyists is the only national family-led organization advocating for kids with every type of disability… We advocate for health care, education, community integration, authentic representation, and joy, so our kids can survive and thrive.”

They move the conversation from the abstract to the real. These are people in our communities who have the same sorts of needs and hopes as the rest of us, albeit with unique challenges that require additional support. These are children who love and are loved. They work hard to overcome challenges because they want the best lives they can have. Every single one matters.
